Diaries (1825-1826, 1871) with long daily entries giving good description of Towle's activities, including his work as justice of the peace, officer with New Hampshire Militia, 25th Regiment, horse trading, brick kiln at Lamprey River and construction of buildings at landing lot there, business done for Newmarket Manufacturing Company, and travels to neighboring towns, including the names of many people; pocket diary (1817) pertaining to his farming activities; appointment as justice of the peace, Strafford County, signed by Gov. Levi Woodbury; and commissions for his various ranks as officer in the state militia signed by governors Samuel Bell, David L. Morril, and Samuel Dinsmoor.

A New Hampshire regiment commanded by Col. Theodore Atkinson was one of several raised in New England in 1746 for a planned expedition to relieve Annapolis Royal.
